Tub Installation Company Lakewood CA

Before you begin, measure your current bathtub alcove around the shower walls. This will help you select the right size tub for your space. Keep in mind that most standard bathtubs are 5-feet long and either 30- or 32-inches wide. Your measurement will be slightly less than those numbers because of the shower wall surfaces (tile, shower surround, etc). Choose the size that is closest to your measurement.

Remove the accessories and disconnect the water lines. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the faucet and disconnect it from the water lines by unscrewing it. Remove the handles, overflow drain cover, and the drain cover on the bottom of the tub. If you have a showerhead, remove that as well.
You may need to pry off a plastic cover to gain access to the screws.
You may be able to reuse some of these accessories, so keep them if you don’t want to buy new ones.

Begin by measuring the approximate length and width of your existing bathtub. Allow about 3/4 in. extra at each wall and your measurement should be close to one of the standard tub sizes. Most are 5 ft. long and 30 in. wide and are designed to fit against the wall studs (Figure A). Then shop for tubs and surrounds at home centers or kitchen and bath specialty stores. Then order your tub. Acrylic replacement tubs are light enough for one person to lift in and out, even in tight spaces. But beware of one piece bathtub shower surrounds and one-piece tub/shower stalls. They’re usually too bulky to get into an existing bathroom. Also pick up a new drain and overflow assembly (Figure B), clear silicone kitchen/bath caulk and the other materials shown in the photos. This is also the perfect time to replace the old shower valve, spout and shower arm.

These bathroom transformations are real, not from reality TV. And all the installations took as little as one day, without the mess of demolition. See for yourself the difference Bath Fitter can make.

Floor reinforcement costs $300 to $800, equating to $100 to $300 per joist, plus framing. For heavy tubs, like granite, marble, or cast iron, the standard bathroom floor may not be strong enough to hold the weight over time. You’ll also need to factor in about 40 to 60 gallons of water and the weight of the occupant while the bath is in use. In these cases, the floor needs reinforcement to spread and safely hold the tub’s weight.
